There are few key components of a powerful, reliable RMM and PSA software solution. Let's examine each high-level piece and provide some information.

Installations of agents
Installing a lightweight agent on all client endpoints, such as laptops, desktops, servers, IoT devices, etc., is the initial task of RMM. The agent communicates with the core RMM dashboard and gathers data.
Even though certain RMM systems use aggressive monitoring, such as WMI (Windows Management Instrumentation), this is not advised because of its legacy footprint and general security flaws.
Gathering data and centralizing administration
The agent routinely checks the security status, network health, application performance, and system performance before sending the information to a central dashboard. All this data is aggregated by the dashboard (server) and stored in its private database. This improves network management and all IT operations.

Alerts and notifications
The RMM software compares gathered data to predetermined thresholds and triggers alerts as needed (a server's CPU has been above 95% for more than five minutes). IT teams are able to prioritize tasks and address important issues before users notice them.
Remote access and debugging
Remote desktop functionality and terminal access are provided by the majority of RMM solutions, eliminating the need to physically visit a customer to replace a hard drive in a server or help with an end user's Outlook problems.
